Nelly to Perform with St. Louis Symphony

RIVERFRONT TIMES–

Nelly.

It’s gonna get hot in herre on February 3 — and by “herre,” we mean Powell Hall.

In an unprecedented one-night-only collaboration, the rapper Nelly will be performing that night with the St. Louis Symphony. And yes, that will mean “original symphonic twists” on the St. Louis native’s hits, including “Hot in Herre,” “Country Grammar” and “Just a Dream,” presumably with conductor David Robertson showing off his best twerk.

And while it would be easy to posit that hell has officially frozen over — that this evening will be the greatest clash of cultures since Thermopylae — we’re not sure we’d buy any of that.

After all, this is the same symphony that’s bringing you a tribute to Prince (on October 9) and has already welcomed symphonic riffs on Led Zeppelin and David Bowie and featured the music of the Legend of Zelda — which is, yes, a Nintendo game. Compared to that, “Just a Dream” seems positively, well, symphonic.

Tickets went on sale this morning; prices range from $45 to $150. If you want to shell out even more, you can pay for a VIP package that’ll score you a meet-and-greet with Nelly himself. Refreshments, we suspect, are not included.
